Private Wyoming Fly Fishing Expeditions
The Wyoming
Cutt-Slam.
Four native cutthroat trout. One extraordinary journey through Wyoming's wild rivers, remote mountain valleys, and untamed landscapes.
The Experience
More Than
the Catch.
Some journeys are measured in miles. Others are measured in moments that stay with you.
This is an invitation to experience Wyoming
beyond the familiar. To follow cold, clear
water through mountain valleys, discover
the remarkable places native trout still
call home, and pursue a challenge that
connects you to the landscape itself.
The Wyoming Cutt-Slam is about four fish.
But the experience is about everything
you discover along the way.
One Wyoming Expedition
Four Native Trout.
One Remarkable Pursuit.
Wyoming is home to four distinct native cutthroat trout subspecies, each shaped by the waters and landscapes it inhabits: Yellowstone, Snake River, Bonneville, and Colorado River cutthroat trout.
The Wyoming Cut-Slam challenges anglers to catch all four. Achieving it means traveling between different watersheds, adapting to changing conditions, and experiencing a remarkable cross-section of the state's wild country.
With THE RISE, the pursuit becomes a thoughtfully planned private expedition. We focus on the fishing, of course, but leave room for the unexpected: an unforgettable mountain sunrise, wildlife along the river, or one more cast into a beautiful stretch of water.
Beyond the Ordinary
Discover the mountain streams, high-country valleys, and expansive landscapes that make Wyoming one of the American West's most extraordinary fishing destinations.
A Journey of Your Own
With just two to four anglers, the expedition offers a more personal experience, with room to adjust the pace, spend time where the fishing is good, and appreciate the journey as much as the destination.
The Stories You Carry

Begin Your ExpeditionThe Native Cutthroats of Wyoming
Four Fish.
Four Worlds.
Each native cutthroat tells a different story of the American West.
From Yellowstone's storied waters to the remote streams of southwestern Wyoming, the Cut-Slam connects four remarkable trout to four distinct landscapes. Every species offers a new challenge, a different setting, and another reason to keep exploring.
The Yellowstone
Cutthroat.
Oncorhynchus clarkii bouvieri
A living symbol of the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem, this native trout is inseparable from the rivers and mountain landscapes that shaped the American West.
Recognized by its distinctive red-orange throat markings, the Yellowstone cutthroat offers the opportunity to experience a remarkable native fish in some of Wyoming's most memorable country.
The Snake River
Cutthroat.
Oncorhynchus clarkii behnkei
Few trout are as closely associated with Wyoming's celebrated fly fishing heritage as the Snake River fine-spotted cutthroat.
Its distinctive pattern of small, closely spaced spots sets it apart. Found in the waters of the Snake River drainage, this beautiful native trout is a fitting ambassador for the wild rivers and mountain valleys of western Wyoming.
The Bonneville
Cutthroat.
Oncorhynchus clarkii utah
The Bonneville cutthroat carries a remarkable history. Its ancestors inhabited the ancient Lake Bonneville system, whose waters once covered vast areas of the interior West.
Today, populations persist in streams and rivers connected to that ancient landscape. Pursuing this trout takes anglers into a quieter side of Wyoming, where the fishing is as much about discovery as it is about the catch.
The Colorado River
Cutthroat.
Oncorhynchus clarkii pleuriticus
Brilliantly colored and deeply connected to the headwaters of the Colorado River system, this native cutthroat is one of the most striking trout in the American West.
Finding it can mean exploring smaller mountain streams and remote tributaries, where cold water and healthy habitat provide refuge for native fish.
It is a fitting final chapter in the pursuit of Wyoming's four native cutthroats: a beautiful fish in a beautiful place.
The Fish Are the Pursuit.
The Journey Is the Reward.
Four native trout. Four distinct watersheds. An extraordinary opportunity to experience the landscapes and living heritage of Wyoming through fly fishing. The Cut-Slam is the goal. Everything along the way is what makes it unforgettable.

The Journey
Between Rivers.
A pursuit that carries you far beyond any single river.
Four native cutthroats inhabit distinct corners of Wyoming. Pursuing them means following the water across a remarkable landscape of mountain ranges, river valleys, and wild country. This is an expedition designed around that journey.
Follow the Water.
Find the Wild.
The Wyoming Cut-Slam is not simply four stops on a map. It is a journey through distinct ecosystems, each with its own character, challenges, and rewards.
Our approach combines thoughtful preparation with the flexibility that genuine adventure demands. We consider seasonal conditions, access, weather, and the needs of your group as we plan each chapter of the expedition.
The goal is to pursue all four native cutthroat trout while making room for the places, encounters, and unexpected moments that make Wyoming extraordinary.
Into the
Wild Country.
Every great expedition begins with a change of pace. We leave the familiar behind and settle into Wyoming's wide-open spaces, preparing our gear, discussing the route, and getting to know the water ahead.
From the first cast, the focus is on fishing thoughtfully, understanding the landscape, and enjoying the experience rather than rushing toward a checklist.
Rivers with
a Story.
Each watershed introduces a new landscape and a different fishing experience. Broad rivers, intimate tributaries, and mountain streams may all become part of the journey.
We'll adapt our techniques to the conditions, from reading moving water and selecting flies to approaching wary trout in clear, shallow streams.
Beyond the
Beaten Path.
Some of the most rewarding moments happen away from well-traveled water. Exploring less familiar streams and valleys reveals another side of Wyoming's native trout country.
Expect a mix of driving, walking, fishing, and observation. Some waters are easily reached; others may require additional effort. Every decision is shaped by conditions, accessibility, and the abilities of the group.
More Than
Four Trout.
Completing the Wyoming Cut-Slam is a remarkable achievement, but the experience extends far beyond the final fish.
The memories are found in the cold mountain mornings, the water that surprises you, the fish that refuses your best presentation, and the shared stories at the end of a long day.
Whether every target is reached or the wilderness has other plans, the journey itself remains the defining experience.
A Note on Wild Places
No Two Expeditions
Are the Same.
Wild trout and wild water operate on their own terms. Conditions change, fish move, and sometimes the most rewarding decision is to explore somewhere unexpected.
That's why our private expeditions are built around adaptability. We prioritize responsible fishing, realistic expectations, and an experience tailored to the group.
The Cut-Slam provides the direction. The landscape helps write the story.
The Details Behind the Adventure
Thoughtfully
Considered.
An extraordinary journey deserves more than an ordinary itinerary.
The Wyoming Cut-Slam is built around meaningful time on the water, careful preparation, and a personal approach to exploring Wyoming's native trout country.
The Difference
Is in the Details.
The most memorable fishing trips rarely happen by accident. They begin with thoughtful preparation, a willingness to adapt, and an understanding that every angler experiences the wilderness differently.
Our approach to the Cut-Slam emphasizes personal attention, an intentional pace, and the freedom to appreciate the journey as much as the fishing.

Wild Places.
Lasting Impressions.
Some places stay with you long after you've left them.
Wyoming is a landscape of contrasts: immense open valleys, quiet mountain streams, rugged high country, and moments of unexpected beauty. The Cut-Slam offers a rare opportunity to experience these places through the pursuit of native trout.
A Landscape
Worth Exploring.
Every river has its own personality, and every valley reveals a different side of Wyoming. Some places are expansive and dramatic. Others are quiet enough to hear the current moving over individual stones.
These are the moments that give the Cut-Slam its character: the early light on distant peaks, the colors of a native trout, and the simple pleasure of discovering beautiful water.

A Familiar Face.
A Wilder Path.
The best adventures are built on trust, shared curiosity, and a genuine love of wild places.
THE RISE was created from a lifelong passion for the outdoors, the art of fly fishing, and the belief that the journey matters just as much as the destination.
Andrew
Slaton.
Photographer / Storyteller / Fly Angler
For me, the best days outdoors have never been just about the fish.
I've spent more than 25 years working as a professional photographer, following landscapes, light, and stories into some extraordinary places. Along the way, fly fishing became another way to explore and connect with the natural world.
Wyoming holds a particularly meaningful place in that journey. Its rivers, mountains, and immense stretches of wild country offer the kind of experiences that stay with you long after you return home.
THE RISE brings those passions together: thoughtful exploration, a respect for native fish and wild places, and the opportunity to share an extraordinary adventure with a small group of anglers.
A Different Kind
of Adventure.
The philosophy behind THE RISE is simple: pursue remarkable experiences, travel with intention, and never lose sight of why we came to the water.
A Love for
Wild Places.
The landscapes are not simply a backdrop for the fishing. They're an essential part of the experience, worthy of time, attention, and respect.
An Eye for
the Moment.
A photographer's perspective encourages us to notice the details: beautiful light, changing weather, the movement of water, and the moments that tell a larger story.
A Journey
Shared.
Small groups create space for conversation, discovery, and an experience that feels personal rather than hurried or impersonal.
Four Fish.
A Bigger Story.
Wyoming's four native cutthroat trout represent more than a collection of species. Each is connected to a particular watershed, landscape, and chapter in the natural history of the American West.
Pursuing all four offers a remarkable reason to explore the state in a way few visitors do: following rivers into new country, learning about native fisheries, and discovering what makes each place unique.
That's the spirit behind this expedition. The Cut-Slam gives us a goal, but Wyoming provides the real adventure.
Let's Find

Whether your goal is to pursue all four native cutthroats or simply experience Wyoming through a different lens, the journey begins with a conversation.

Questions
Answered.
The best adventures begin with good preparation.
From travel arrangements and fishing experience to the realities of pursuing wild native trout, here are a few things worth knowing before planning your Wyoming Cut-Slam.
Explore Expedition Details01 How long is the Wyoming Cut-Slam expedition?
Expedition duration is determined during the planning process. The four native cutthroat trout inhabit different Wyoming watersheds, so sufficient time must be allowed for travel, fishing, and changing conditions.
We'll discuss a realistic itinerary based on your group, preferred dates, and expedition goals before confirming the trip.
02 Do I need to be an experienced fly angler?
You don't necessarily need to be an expert, but some familiarity with fly fishing will make the experience more enjoyable.
The Cut-Slam involves different water types, conditions, and fishing challenges. Tell us about your experience when you inquire so we can discuss whether the expedition is a good fit.
03 How physically demanding is the expedition?
Physical demands depend on the waters selected and the itinerary. Some fishing locations may involve short walks, uneven ground, or wading in moving water. Others may require more significant effort.
We'll discuss mobility, comfort level, and physical expectations before finalizing your expedition.
04 Where does the expedition begin?
Your meeting location and travel arrangements will be confirmed with your individual itinerary.
Because the Cut-Slam covers multiple watersheds, the most practical starting point may depend on the route, season, and your group's travel plans.
05 Are lodging, meals, and transportation included?
Specific inclusions will be outlined in your individual expedition proposal before you make a booking commitment.
This will clarify lodging, meals, ground transportation, meeting arrangements, and any additional services included in your quoted price.
06 What fishing equipment should I bring?
Equipment needs will depend on the waters and conditions expected during your trip. Fly rods, reels, waders or suitable footwear, clothing layers, and a selection of flies may all be relevant.
We'll provide recommendations during planning, including any specific gear requirements. Whether equipment is supplied or available separately will be confirmed in your proposal.
07 Will I need a Wyoming fishing license?
Anglers should expect to need an appropriate Wyoming fishing license and to comply with all applicable regulations, including any required conservation stamp or location-specific restrictions.
We'll discuss licensing requirements before departure. Official current regulations and license information are available through the Wyoming Game and Fish Department .
08 Is catching all four cutthroat trout guaranteed?
No. These are wild fish living in natural environments. Weather, water conditions, fish behavior, and other factors influence every outing.
Our goal is to plan a thoughtful pursuit of all four native cutthroats, but completing the Cut-Slam cannot be guaranteed. The adventure is valuable regardless of the final tally.
09 What about catch-and-release and fish conservation?
Respect for native trout and their habitats is central to the philosophy behind THE RISE. We encourage responsible fishing practices and careful fish handling.
Fishing practices must follow the regulations that apply to each specific water. Where appropriate, catch-and-release techniques help minimize unnecessary stress on fish.
Let's Talk About Your Trip.
